‘The Dreamtime Fellrunner’ written & performed by Julie Carter

“Authentic, unique and full of vitality, a special theatrical experience.”
Liz Stevenson, Artistic Director, Theatre by the Lake
The Dreamtime Fellrunner is a poetic, fun and moving exploration of Julie’s running exploits on the Lakeland fells. Julie is an athlete with a physical disability in the form of a developmental disease of the spine. A successful author of poetry and creative non-fiction, this is her first theatre show.
Presenting fellrunning as a type of land art and spiritual practice, this is an aesthetic performance which allows people to experience the beauty of a wonderful sport, regardless of their degree of familiarity with the fells and running.
Emphasising body-mind-spirit-place connections, the Dreamtime Fellrunner encounters themes of feminism, land rights, ageism and ableism, history and literature, while carrying the audience on a journey through the Lakeland fells.
The show consists of 60 minutes of immersive performance supported by a soundscape with original music. The shorter, more relaxed second-half features opportunities for discussion and reflection on personal sources of beauty and connection, whatever they are. In particular it will appeal to anyone interested in wellbeing, body-mind connection and the ways in which we inhabit our environments.
