Farewell to Storyville, Songs and Stories from New Orleans
The Nightcreatures duo (Henry Botham – piano, Tom Davies – Guitar and vocals) take you on a journey to old New Orleans, singing songs and telling the stories behind them. Old blues, Mardi Gras songs and classic New Orleans material are explored, drawing on the musical heritage of Dr John, James Booker, Professor Longhair and all the great Louisiana bluesmen. There’s also a few surprises along the way, with modern pop and rock songs given The Nightcreatures treatment in the true spirit of the crescent city.

The Nightcreatures duo are a vocal, guitar and piano version of New Orleans R&B band The Nightcreatures. They specialise in Swamp Funk, Voodoo Blues and Mardi Gras street beats. They play a varied mixture of classic New Orleans material, old time blues and rock/pop covers given the Nightcreatures treatment.

In the true spirit of the city they bring together songs sourced from such diverse artists as Prince, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Waits and Ian Drury, as well as from New Orleans greats like Allen Toussaint, Dr John, Professor Longhair, James Booker and many of the great NOLA R&B bands. Looking deeper into history, they have reworked songs that were originally recorded by classic bluesmen Blind Willie Johnson, Leadbelly, Screaming Jay Hawkins and Jelly Roll Morton.

It’s a hot spicy gumbo of filthy blues, funky grooves and classic tunes

Jenny Wren and Her Borrowed Wings will be opening the evening in support of The Nightcreatures.
Jenny Wren and Her Borrowed Wings are a hidden gem. Those in the know who discover this interesting and inventive trio, will not be disappointed. The band deliver a jazzed-up bombardment of rootsy musicianship that effortlessly intertwines with their stripped back earthy core. The result, a unique and impassioned sound, laid bare and beautiful in its honesty.

Lead singer and double bassist, Jenny Trilsbach, is the modest centrepiece of the band. It is especially her phenomenal vocals that make this band a special experience. A beautiful and powerful hurricane that touches the heart of the listener, starts up the moment she begins to sing. Joining Jenny Wren on her powerhouse vocals and heartbeat double bass are the superbly talented guitarists; Ben Fisher and Ben Gallon, performing a musical dance with each other, in perfect synchrony and with a delicious dirt-road sound.

Across their four fantastic albums, the band showcase their mesmerising acoustic blues with great song-writing, creating powerful Rhythm and Blues statements that come straight from the heart. Playing their instruments with an intuitive togetherness, the beguiling sound of this trio is music to your ears.
